Nanamica 5 Pocket Denim

01

Words

This pair of Nanamica 5 pocket jeans look like a great option for a pair of jeans that are not straight vintage reproductions. The slim fit is modern and the back pocket detail, and triple needle construction adds a nice touch.

Kapital Hunting Coverall

01

Image

—01. Made in Japan.

Words

This might be the simplest and most refined piece of outerwear that Kapital has manufactured in a while. Sometimes Kapital fabrics are a little too 'crazy quilt' for me, even though I know the construction is going to be incredible. In general I like mostly monochromatic pieces. This style of hunting jacket made of cotton moleskin, rarely seen in black, with the classic brown corduroy collar, is the best example I've seen. It's more modern than the caramel coloured vintage version but still a more traditional jacket than usual from Kapital.

Mountain Research Dispatcher Pants

Words

Mountain Research has really been intriguing me from what I see online with their last few collections. While the brand does seem quite modern and technical, their pieces almost always seem heritage inspired. A real standout for me are these military inspired pants made of cotton duck with a removable belt. The front patch pockets and side slit pockets are a unique and interesting detail. Plus, both colours offered, brown and olive green, are very appealing. Most of the Mountain Research line is nearly impossible to get in North America, so for now I'll have to dream.

New Balance 587

01

Image

Words

My favourite style of New Balance runner, and we all know there are tons of incredible options, is the often overlooked 587. The 587 is one of the elite few styles that New Balance makes that are made in the USA. They are incredibly unhip and orthopaedic looking, in their navy and grey exterior, but I love them anyway. There is something for me that transcends their chunky awkwardness, and it goes beyond their extreme comfort.

Buzz Rickson Zip-Front Sweatshirt

Words

One of Buzz Rickson's marquee pieces is the loop wheeled sweatshirts they produce. The fabric is loomed on original 1920s loop wheel machines and while the 1930s-1940s crew neck style might be more traditional, I am partial to the zip-front hooded version in navy.

Saucony x White Mountaineering Courageous

01

Image

—01. Black & Charcoal.

Words

Saucony has always made classic running shoes in the vein of the more ubiquitous New Balance. I find them slightly more unique than New Balance, only if for the sheer fact that they are not as recognizable. White Mountaineering has done a collaboration for SS13 picking up where they left off last season with the Jazz model, they have made three different colourways in the, only slightly less retro, Courageous model.

Gerhard Richter Painting

Words

For some reason I missed seeing the documentary Gerhard Richter Painting, released in 2012. I finally took the time to watch it on Netflix, and it is an incredible and meditative portrait of one of the most gifted and recognized living artists; who's equally skilled in the styles of photo-real and abstract painting. I have loved his work ever since I realized it was his artwork on the cover of Daydream Nation, and it is inspiring to be a fly on the wall to his method in this film.

Merz B. Schwanen Button Facing Shirt

01

—01. Grey melange.

Words

I mostly buy classic pieces, so I absolutely love Merz B. Schwanen's old world simplicity and their whole line of staples. The 100% cotton circular knit shirts have to be the softest hand going, and that means a whole lot more when almost all you make is undershirts.
