Words

For our latest issue I interviewed the brothers behind the Japanese brand Warehouse, Kenichi and Kouji Shiotani. In the article they specifically mention some very rare Montgomery Ward jeans they were planning to recreate for this year's 20th anniversary. These are now available for preorder in two options – one slim, the other with a buckle back – and both meticulously researched styles serve as the perfect way to commemorate a milestone anniversary for one of Japan’s best reproduction companies.

Images

01. Created between 1967 and 1969.
02. Available in a range of designs and sizes.

Words

These posters, created by Fluxus founder Allan Kaprow, were originally meant as advertisements for his now famous Happenings. While he is best known as a conceptual artist, these individual works show that we was no slouch in the design department either.

Bazar des Poilus

01. Abandoned country house.
02. French Workwear Jacket.

Words

Bazar des Poilus is the online home of Leonard Vintage Store in Lyon, France and they stock an impressive selection of antique French clothing. Owned by vintage hunter Frédéric Marc Marion they focus on garments that date back between 40 and 140 years. Indigo linen coats, blue moleskin pants that have been repaired, and patched French work jackets are just the beginning. I imagine the stuff goes quickly, so check back often.

01. Vol. 1, No. 3 – Autumn 1973.
02. Vol. 1, No. 4 – Winter 1973.

Words

On numerous occasions Google Books has been an indispensable resource for hard to find materials that I was dying to see. One such treasure was searching for and happening upon issues of Backpacker magazine from the 1970s. The first few years of this publication are worth a scroll through to see advertisements from now iconic companies like The North Face, Patagonia and Eddie Bauer in a fledgling hiking magazine. The vintage gear from these brands and many smaller mail-order companies is certainly the highlight and this collection of copies online is incredibly generous.

Words

Deadstock clothing from the 1960s and earlier is getting harder and harder to come by, and the glory days of finding rare items for a song seem to be a thing of the past. In turn, more shops are now carrying well-selected vintage pieces alongside new offerings. A-1 Clothing has a number of these, as well as some mid-century homewares and collectable promotional items, in a section they call Flea Market.
