"MoMA’s ambitious survey of 20th century design for children is the first large-scale overview of the modernist preoccupation with children and childhood as a paradigm for progressive design thinking. The exhibition will bring together areas underrepresented in design history and often considered separately, including school architecture, clothing, playgrounds, toys and games, children’s hospitals and safety equipment, nurseries, furniture, and books."

At MoMA until November 5th, 2012

"People Around Here is an exhibition of drawings by Jason Polan. It is a component of Polan’s larger project Every Person in New York, where he is attempting to draw every person in New York. Here, he is focusing on the area around Broadway and 29th Street. His work is a witty examination of human nature on a grand scale."

"I'm explaining myself. I'm talking to you with a drink in one hand. At the open bar in the lobby of the reception for what's-his-name. Except when I get to my point I pause. There's a name I'm missing. Maybe it's yours. What I've forgotten is perhaps more important than what I've said. And you're politely waiting. And I stutter some half-sentences that don't come close to what I meant. But you nod anyway. Later that night at home in bed in the dark I'll recall just what it was I wanted to say. I'll open my eyes and look at the ceiling and simultaneously congratulate and berate myself for such a statement."

Opens today at David Kordansky Gallery

Another month, another excellent exhibition at Mondo Cane. Starting tonight, and running until July 12th, the New York store and gallery will be showing a selection of Japanese indigo boro from the photographer Eric Kvatek's personal collection. These pieces have been acquired on his frequent trips to the country's early morning antique markets, and are becoming increasingly more difficult to find.
