Porter Satin Focus Backpack

01

Images

01. Two-way zip closure.
02. Made in Japan.

Words

Fashion products that have a shiny black finish as well as matte black hardware rarely fail to have a futuristic look, and this pack is no exception. On top of its Akira concept art aesthetic, it also sports some of Porter's most durable fabric, which make it even more appealing, and even more practical.

When All Of My Friends Are On At Once – Memories of Being Online

Info

Organized by Gene McHugh
Art by Juan Amaya
Design by Beautiful Company

Words

When All Of My Friends Are On At Once is a bit like an online journal, with Gene McHugh as its guardian, and many of the art world's brightest up-and-comers as its contributors. Each artist was asked to share their first memories of being online, and the result is a varied and often highly personal collection of stories that I think most of us can relate to in some capacity. Artist Cameron Soren personally reminded me of the time I looked up Tupac's coroner's report on Rotten.com, but maybe reading about Tyler Coburn's successful Sailor Moon website will jog a few of your online memories.

Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Wide Collar Cotton Shirt

01

Images

01. Made in Japan.
02. Collar detail.

Words

While I might admittedly prefer collars more prevalent in the 1940s and 1970s, you can't ignore the '80s forever. This shirt from Comme des Garçons Homme Plus looks like it was ripped straight out of the 1989 film Slaves of New York, with its classic silhouette and larger than life flourishes. It also doesn't hurt that the price seems to be from a bygone era as well.

Flat Static

01

Images

01. Silk screened sleeve.
02. Rereleased by Ruff Records.

Words

After highlighting Garry Bradbury's work last week, I thought I would continue to give shine to the often forgotten artists that made up the Australian experimental scene of the 1980s. To be honest, I don't know much about this reissue, or Flat Static in general, but it doesn't take more than a quick listen to realize that this record is a beautiful and strange mix of nearly every genre of music imaginable.

Soe 'Somewhere You Belong' T-Shirt

01

Images

01. Front image.
02. Back text.

Words

Japanese brand Soe have made a name for themselves with the adventurous use of fabrics in their shirting, but it's actually a collection of T-shirts which have really caught my attention recently. This is my personal favourite from a series of options, all of which feature photos of seemingly happy young women, tinged with what feels to me like a certain loss of innocence. Intended or otherwise, each one is simply designed and quietly effective.

Garry Bradbury – Panspermia

01

Image

01. Limited to 200 copies.

Words

Garry Bradbury might not be a household name, but he is someone who's had a long and undeniable influence on experimental music. He first rose to prominence in the early '80s with seminal band The Severed Heads, and hasn't stopped working on various solo and group material since. His new album, released by Vinyl On Demand, is decidedly more dance friendly than a lot of his previous work, injecting tried and true grooves with an ability to simultaneously make one's skin crawl.

Depression Catalogue

Info

94 pages, 18 foldouts
9.5 x 12 inches
Designed by Eric Wrenn
Published by Ramiken Crucible

Words

Last year I saw some photos from an amazing group show entitled Depression, put on at the François Ghebaly Gallery in LA. At the time I didn't know that the exhibition was organised by Ramiken Crucible, so when I saw this catalog for sale on the Lower East Side gallery's website, I was pleasantly surprised. Alongside work from an impressive list of artists including Lucas Blalock and Andra Ursuta, the catalog's accompanying text offers insight into a serious issue that many people find themselves affected by.

Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Diagonal Print Shirt

01

Images

01. 100% polyester.
02. Asymmetric cut.

Words

It's that wonderful time of year when Fall-Winter items from the various Comme des Garçons collections start rolling into shops, and I'm as impressed as ever. Although there are a lot of standouts, this wonky creation is one of the best. It is a truly bizarre construction but, in my opinion, not too costume-like to be unwearable, existing in that rare sweet spot Rei Kawakubo so frequently inhabits.
