Final Week – Tintin: Hergé's Masterpiece

Info

Somerset House
Terrace Rooms, South Wing
London WC2R 1LA
November 12, 2015 – January 31, 2016

Words

"Stepping inside the wonderfully eccentric world of artist-author Hergé and Tintin, his intrepid young reporter, the exhibition explores the evolution of the artwork of Hergé, from the simplicity of early newspaper strips to the genre-defining graphic work of the later books. Drawing on the archives of the Hergé Museum in Belgium, Tintin: Hergé's Masterpiece features pencil sketches, character drawings, and watercolours alongside original artwork from the finished stories.

The exhibition also reveals more about the man behind the masterpiece. Hergé had an enduring fascination with architecture and design. With his skill as an illustrator and a draughtsman's eye for design, the settings in which the stories were played out were always rendered in meticulous detail."

The Margaret Howell Autumn-Winter '16 men's collection was presented at the brand's Wigmore Street store in London today. A mix of mainline and MHL pieces combined to create an effortless balance between the tailored and utilitarian styles that often define each label. Highlights included six-button double breasted jackets, long belted Mackintosh coats, and Dainite-soled Chelsea boots, while two-tone silk scarves and high-waisted cropped trousers formed a consistent thread throughout. 02. January.

Words

Earlier this year Margaret Howell designed a capsule collection to accompany the Barbara Hepworth retrospective at Tate Britain. As part of this process, an array of historical exhibition catalogues were discovered, and it's the covers of these which form the basis of the brand's latest calendar. In Margaret's words,"they are of their time, but still impress as pared down design that conveys the dynamism and power of the work it represents." The calendars are now for sale in-store and online, with profits to be donated to Open-City.
